You can bring a tomato to market . . .

. . . but you can’t make anyone buy it if it’s cheaper at the Pick n Save.
Farmers who bring their stuff to the city, whether Chicago’s Green City Market or Madison’s Dane County Farmers’ Market, are fighting shoppers off with sticks this year. In Door County, not so much. An illuminating letter from one frustrated farmer in this week’s Peninsula Pulse.

“I am one of several Northern Door County growers who bring our stuff to the Sister Bay Farmers Market on Saturday mornings. And again I ask, where are you? The market has been poorly attended so far, after several years of steady growth. There are many people I have not seen there that I used to see regularly. Should I start naming names? You know who you are. If sustainability is as important as I and so many others think it is, then we need you to meet us part way on this venture of local growers and buyers teaming up to improve our world.”
