This rambly old building has been on the market since I first came up here in 2004, which tells you something about the pace of island real estate. Frank Hartmann, the winter manager of the Washington Hotel, moved to Canada before he could realize his (pipe) dream of turning it into a cross-country ski lodge. Me, I think it would make a good rock club.

Hey – don’t you go getting people excited about that building – we’ve been eyeing it for years! Big plans, big plans…
no, yeah, ski lodge.
actually, for it to be a true washington island business it should be both. and sell washing machines. and, bait.
You know that it used to be doughnuts, right?
no! for reals?
Shah. Or at least so my childhood recollection tells me. Hole in One. They were the best doughnuts I ever remember having.
